This is the house that Jack built...

The four bedroom home in Croydon was built just three years ago after Jack Chi and his wife Elina sought out the perfect location.

It took more than a year of hard work before the couple moved in with their newborn son but not all is perfect in Harriet Street.

Just two years after moving in the Chi's got an unwelcome knock at the door.

A government official told the family their home was to be flattened to make way for the expanded South Road extension.

Before he bought the land, Jack checked with the State Government to see if the works on South Road would threaten his future plans to build and was told no.

The letter from the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure said at the time… "The property is not affected by the metropolitan Adelaide road widening plan," and his building application to the Charles Sturt Council raised no alarms.
