Why Kaitlyn needs $50,000 A message from the Kaitlyn's mother, Karina:
Kaitlyn is a 5-year-old girl from Adelaide who was born 10 weeks premature resulting in Kaitlyn having Cerebral Palsy Diplegia. What this means is that she requires aids to walk (generally a walking frame but due to intensive work Kaitlyn can manage short distances with the use of her walking sticks). This fundraiser has been organised by myself Karina - Kaitlyn's mother.
Recently our family was given some incredible news.
After extensive testing, Kaitlyn has been accepted as an ideal candidate at St Louis Children's Hospital in America to have a potentially life changing surgery called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR).
SDR is a spinal operation which removes all the nerves from the spine causing Kaitlyn's spasticity and stiffness and could potentially help her take her first steps unaided and make her much more comfortable in life.
These specialised doctors and this hospital are the best in the world for the treatment of Cerebral Palsy. The one huge barrier standing in our way is my enormous task of trying to raise $50,000 for this operation unfortunately insurance etc does not cover this operation overseas which would change my little girl's life!!
Kaitlyn's surgery has been tentatively booked for January 2013 in America but the honest reality is, if we don't find this money this operation isn't going to be possible which would just break my heart.
Kaitlyn is already such a motivated and determined little girl, she currently attends physiotherapy up to 5 times a week.
